Cub Scout Shooting Sports Training
Shooting sports training provides fun and adventure for boys. Archery and BB gun shooting teach skills, discipline, self-reliance, sportsmanship, and conservation, all of which are elements of good character valued by Scouters.
Archery and BB gun shooting are restricted to day camps, Cub Scout/Webelos Scout resident camps, council-managed family camping programs and other council activities where there are properly trained supervisors and all standards for BSA shooting sports are enforced. Archery and BB gun shooting are not to be done at the pack level.
In order to provide these great adventure activities to our Cub Scouts it takes trained volunteers in all of our Districts. Consequently in order to run shooting at our camps and camporees, we also need trained staff to be present and willing to run safe ranges.
Once again, we will be hosting a one day training session for anyone interested in becoming a trained Archery/BB Gun Range Officer. This session will be held at the Trexler Scout Reservation on Saturday, May 1, 2010. The training will start at 9:00 a.m. at the Settlers Camp Rifle Range and will be done by noon.
There is no charge for this training, we only ask that you give back to your District. Once you have been trained, we ask that you assist with the operation of a shooting range at either one of your District’s Day Camps or Camporees. Give a little – Get a lot!!!
